Mr. Nicholls obtained degrees in English and Physics from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Washington. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego. He was admitted to the State Bar of Kentucky in 1984 and the State Bar of California in 1986. He is also admitted to the United States District Courts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In his 24 years of practice, Mr. Nicholls has worked primarily in the areas of insurance coverage and commercial litigation. He worked for an international insurer for eight years in the area of executive liability claims, and was responsible for the handling of claims in excess of $100 million.
Mr. Nicholls' practice areas include coverage litigation involving property, casualty and executive liability insurance. He also handles a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including claims under Federal and State securities laws and ERISA.
Mr. Nicholls has spoken to a variety of professional organizations on insurance coverage topics, most recently in the area of directors and officers and fiduciary policies claims.
Mr. Nicholls is currently Vice Chair of the American Bar Association's Professionals' Officers' and Directors' Liability Committee and Co-author of the American Bar Association publication The Global Directors and Officers Guidebook.
